Wraggster: Can you tell us where you live and where do you come from, and
where you
went to school, college etc? Gonzo: I'm from Austria and at the moment I'm a student in lets say a higher
school for informatics
and internet engineering. My last year there starts soon and I pray to get
that I'll make it.
Wraggster: Can you tell us what made you get into computers and what
Qualifications you have? Gonzo: Actually consoles got me into computers.
I always liked playing games and wanted to produce something like that on
my own.
3 or 4 years ago I bought my first pc and started programming in C/C++.
Oh Boy i had no clue how hard it is to produce something useful.
Today I'm able to program stuff in php, perl, java,Visual Basic.
I don't know any programming language in perfection but I'm still learning.
Programming isn't that hard once you know one language.
Wraggster: What made you get into the Dreamcast Homebrew scene? Gonzo: The fact that I killed my playstation.
Argh i wanted to mod(to run my programs on it) it myself and killed it that
way.
I didn't want to buy a new one because the DC was quite cheap at and a
powerful machine at that time. So I bought a Dreamcast and a coders cable.
With all the information on the net it was no problem to start programming
right away.
Wraggster: What projects are you working on at the moment? Gonzo: oddDC - The Odyssey2 emulator for DC and [d]cs2600 - the atari2600
emulator for DC. And a massive multiplayer online game for pc (in java->school
project)
called project distortion. We're pretty far with the game design now and
I have to say it's really
not bad hehe.
Wraggster: Do you see an update to your Dcolem project? Gonzo: Uhm no. I haven't looked at the code for weeks now and i really don't
plan
to look through the mess anytime soon
Wraggster: What emulators would you like to either try or see come out
on the
Dreamcast? Gonzo: I would love to see Pc Engine, Gameboy, SNES and the C64 fully emulated
on
my DC. Oh and NeoGeo of course.
Wraggster: With Bleemcast being released and the great success at getting
a
playstation emu on the Dreamcast, what other high end systems do you see
being emulated? Gonzo: The only system other than PSX I could imagine is the N64.
It is possible to emulate smaller games but the question is how fast they
would run.
Wraggster: what is your favorite game of all time? Gonzo: That's hard. I have to pick 3 games.
Super Mario 1 on the NES
Zelda 3
Secret of Mana
God I love the old Nintendo games
Wraggster: How do you see the future as regards to which system will be
the main
one for homebrew coders like your self? Gonzo: Think I'll stay in the DC scene.
I really don't like the XBox,PS2 or GameCube at the moment.
The only system with some innovations could be the GC but Nintendo doesn't
realize that there's a bigger game market than just little Pokemon freaks.
Maybe the Gameboy Advance
Wraggster: Thank you for your time and this interview.
